New Record and Shows Shows Shows!!!

Dearest RageHeads,

We wanted to reach out to our lovely fans to let them know our latest developments in Mercurial Rage HQ. First we are proud to announce that our second release in less then a year is about to be unveiled! A month after we released the Funeral Sessions, we were privileged to record some new tracks with critically acclaimed producer Ed Ackerson. (Polera, 27 Various, The Dig, Sideways) We mulled over what to do with these tracks for several months, and continued to push The Funeral Sessions and play many more shows. Fortunately, DJ Christian Fritz of MPLS Ltd. offered to release our latest recordings on his label. We are honored to be a part of his family, which includes local artists Basement Apartment, First Communion Afterparty, Bridge Club, The Flavor Crystals and Ouija Radio. Therefore, we are tentatively planning on a CD Release show this spring, and we will be certain to give you the exact date once it has been booked.

Secondly, we have a number of shows coming up that we would love for you to attend. The first of these shows is on Friday, March 14th at Club Underground with Bella Koshka and The Invincible Kids. We are headlining this show, and we promise to play our dirtiest/darkest new wave set possible. Therefore, walk down the stairs of Club Underground with an extra coating of eyeliner, for this is certain to be one of the best nights of music in town!

Superbad Pictures!

Everybody's favorite Superbadfriend uploaded some very excellent pictures of the Rage Boys when they were last in Chicago.

The following were taken when the charming and talented Mercurial Rage came to Chi-Town a few months ago to play at Goose Island. (A huge thanks to Steve Krock of Swizzle Tree for booking them) Good times always when these kids are in town.

Check out the full post on her blog.

Be sure to drop us a line if you have some pictures! There's an ever growing collection out on flickr, tagged "Mercurial Rage". Please add some!

Confessions on a Dance Floor

Minneapolis blogger Hayley has a very frank and fascinating look at her own recent Mercurial Rage experience. It looks ugly right away, but in the end we made this person into a fan. However, this time it was all about the music and NOT our show... You can view the complete post here.

Sail on Silvergirl

Looking for a Mercurial Rage fix between shows? Can't get enough of Michael's vocals on The Funeral Sessions? Check out our friend Jon's new record! Every song on the completed Silvergirl album is now available for free download.

I wrote and played the whole thing myself, for the most part -- the guitars, basses, drums, keyboards, and whatever other nib-nobs you hear in there are most likely me. I was helped by the fabulous Michael [DiGregarrio] of Minneapolis electro-rockers Mercurial Rage (on low harmonies) and of course Diablo Cody (on high harmonies), who made it sound less like I was a giant chorus of clones.

You can read the entire post, including detailed descriptions of each track, here.

Christmas Praise

The Tone King gave a real lovely write-up about the holiday song "It's Christmas". Read the full post here.

Today I'd like to share some regional finds. Starting in the north, from Minneapolis, MN we have Mercurial Rage. This is a Christmas song they shared on their My Space page, so I don't believe it has been released on a CD. Their influences range from Joy Division, Bauhaus, The Psychedelic Furs, A Flock of Seagulls, and among others. It adds up to a very nice sound, and great original Christmas tune.

Be sure to link over and thank him in the comments!

Give Thanks

It's not just good manners to thank people for a job well done. It also creates a sense of goodwill and encourages continued focus on the subject for which they're being thanked. So thank the soundman at the Fine Line when he gives Mercurial Rage the best sound they've yet had. Thank Ed Ackerson for a fantastic surprise performance of Judas Priest's "Living After Midnight" during the extremely rockin' Melismatics set. Thank the fan that that sought out the Rage boys for their autograph after the show.

And what about the radio? The piece from "The World" is now archived. Be sure to thank the show via theworld@pri.org for supporting the Super Split Singles Club. Contact Minnesota Public Radio to thank them for airing "The World" and to request that they play Mercurial Rage on The Current. Thank Todd Melby melby@bitstream.net for doing the story and choosing Mercurial Rage as the local Minneapolis band to focus on.

Thank the KFAI program MN Soundtrack MNSoundtrack@gmail.com for playing The Funeral Sessions last week. Thank the Radio K program Off the Record for choosing Mercurial Rage as their Local Kebut in July and to request that they continue to support them with additional airings of other songs.

And thanks to you for helping to spread the music of Merc Rage across the airwaves!

A Fine Evening

Cake! Butch McQueen surprised Chris Church with a birthday cake at the Kitty Cat Klub. There was even a lovely audience singalong of Happy Birthday in the middle of the set on Saturday night. Shout out to birthday girl Amanda, too! There most likely won't be any frosting-covered festivities at the Fine Line on Thursday (on stage at least) but it will definitely be a dancetastic show! Come down!
